After years of digitalization, Taipei City has accomplished well-recognized information and technology progress. However, in the face of exponential growth of emerging data, the challenge of making the city more livable shifted toward to how can we better integrate and leverage the abundance of multi-disciplinary data sources.
To facilitate Taipei's data-driven city governance, the Taipei City Government established the Taipei Urban Intelligence Center in the form of a designated task force in July of 2020. The organization's main responsibility includes data convergence engineering, cross-disciplinary deep analysis, value-adding data applications, and public & private partnerships.
To ensure the security and legality of data application and uses, Taipei City Government founded the Data Governance Committee in December of 2020. The Committee comprises of three groups- personal data protection, integrated application, and geo-spatial - and is tasked to promote data transmission protocols and regulations.
Through a two-pronged approach in tackling the aspects of application and regulations at the same time, Taipei City Government seeks to implement data-driven city governance thoroughly under the vision of open government and empowering the public with rights to data access.
